In
the quest for Lutheran to expand beyond the boundaries of Adamawa and North
Eastern region, the LCCN Ikoyi District in Lagos Division has planted another
parish in Abeokuta the capital city of Ogun State. The Church is called LCCN
Peace House located at Ibara Abeokuta. The church came to be as a result of
request made by Evangelist Ayuba Abubakar Tula and his wife Mrs. Liatu Ayuba
who have been Lutheran members while in Orimedu Lagos. Mrs. Ayuba a police
officer serving at the Ogun State command caught the vision of the church in
ensuring that none is left out in evangelism.
Rev
Hossana Yohana was contacted by Mr. Tula on the matter and District Pastor of
Ikoyi Rev Caleb Dalatu was handed over the responsibility of ensuring that a
Parish is planted in Ogun State. When the Church Council in Ikoyi caught the
vision, they did not waste time in swinging into action. Immediately the news
was spread across the length and breadth of Abeokuta and members were drown to
the new fellowship the Ikoyi church supported the renting of a place of worship
which rent was paid for one year.
Seven
members attended the first service after which the entire congregation of LCCN
Ikoyi went there for the official opening ceremony of the church. According to
Rev Caleb Dalatu, “the church planting is in accordance with the great
commission which is the cardinal objective of Christianity. It is not for
competition or effort of snatching members from one congregation to another.”
He charged the members to put their trust in God as He is the only one that make
them to be beneficiaries of his grace. The pastor also charged them to ensure
that they have taken the gospel to other places where it is needed. He
encouraged them to learn to sacrifice their time and resources for the work of
God.
The
church got a caretaker leadership who are running the affairs of preaching
point pending substantive election of church elders, they include Mr. Paul
Hevilon, Mr. Markus A. Tasolon, Mrs. Suzana Luka; others are: Mr. Dickson
Ibrahim, Mr. Sunday Jackson and Mrs Victoria Adiel. The caretaker leaders are
to be in-charge of the church and its subgroups.
In
order to aid the work in the new station Evangelist Saura H. Mada a final year
student at Bronnum Lutheran Seminary Mbamba was sent to the place during his
long vacation period. He started work at the station on 16th August
2015 till the end of the holidays. Before the Evangelist left the place for
school a church which was started with 7 members have grown to have over 50
members in a worship. The church organized a vigil on the 25th of
September, 2015.
As
part of the mandate to propagate the gospel the general church members are
hereby called upon to support this inner city mission whether in cash or in
kind and should continue to pray for the growth of the young congregation.
