Pupils of LCCN Deaf School Excelled
in School Leaving EXams
The
Pupils of the LCCN Deaf Academy in Jimeta Yola performed excellently in their
first attempt in the Primary School Leaving Certificate. The students who were
drafted from primary five to try the exams surprised both the teachers and the
examiners as they performed better than most students who have no any challenge
in learning. The Principal of the Academy Rev Ruth Ulea told the Lutheran Today
that the Children had taken their training with special care though under an
unfavorable condition of classroom and learning materials. She said it was a
trail effort to see if they can perform in the exams. “We asked them go and try
it if they pass they will be promoted and if they did not we would have tested
their abilities. They did well, they were better than other children in the
exams.” The Deaf Children wrote the same exams with other kids who are not
deaf.
Pastor
Ruth Ulea and few of her staff members are starting a Junior Secondary School
to prepare the children for higher education. Considering the financial level
of the parents of these children Rev Ruth said they only charged small fees to
encourage them. This according to her has made the school to be very difficult
to run. The classes are few and not in very good shape and teaching material
lacking.
Meanwhile
the first Deaf Church in Yola is at its finishing stage, Rev Ruth Ulea the
first Deaf pastor in LCCN is in charge of both the School and the church. She
said the school has received some books from Mr Jay Johnson and other
organizations and the Danish people are also helping with the Building of the
Deaf Church. Rev Ruth said the School and the Church need attention of the
well-meaning members of the church and the society.
