Rev Dr Peter Bart a worthy successor – Rt. Rev John Kenan
The
Bishop of Gongola Diocese Rt. Rev. John S. Kenan said his successor is a very
worthy successor because he has succeeded him before. He said when he left the
work of Provost at BLS, it was Dr Peter Bartimawus that succeeded him. He
further said that where he purchased a piece of land in Guyuk, next to him is
the plot belonging to the same Rev Dr. Bart. He said in everything, they have
cordially worked together as brothers in the ministry therefore, he believed
that God wants him to hand over leadership to him and he has prepared him thus.
Bishop
John Kenan was speaking after the election which came at the end of his 5 year tenure.
He was optimistic that the Bishop-elect will bring new ideas into the diocese.
He said, “I am very grateful for all of you in the diocese, I succeeded Baba
Myatafadi who did 10 years in the office and I also did ten years and I by the
grace of will soon be out of the system. I pray that you will give the incoming
Bishop the same support you gave me. This work is a continuous process; some of
you seated here today will one day become bishops too. So, there is need to
support the person who is elected.”
The
Chairman of electoral committee Hon Mark Dauda thanked the people for the good
election. Early in his message at the election Rev Elkanah Danlami the Secretary
to the Archbishop charged the church to be aware of the responsibility that
comes with every election. He also said that elections are Biblical and where there
is an election a person will emerge as the winner.
In
accordance with the LCCN constitution which stated that after five year tenure
of every Bishop, there will be election for the office. Elections were held on
October 3rd, 10th and 17th in three Dioceses
in the Church.
